Collection of sunsets from photo hunt
These are the photos from two trips out and about. One was up into the hills with Jarrom, the other was the next day down to the beach. Both days were good for photo hunts as it was in the early evening on a dry day with high level cloud. This meant that there would be a good chance for some nice sunset pics - or at least in theory!
One of the first shots. Felt that the sky with the trees was pretty so took a shot of that.
I like this shot. This is why slighly cloudy days are better than clear days for sun set photos.
This is the last photo from the beach trip. The sun is already below the horizon, the colour is changing and I ran out of room on the memory card. Note to self: carry more than one memory card!
This was a tricky photo to get as the light required a longer exposure to get the colour, but the leaves were moving in the breeze making for a blurry photo. Grr, had to compromise.
I'm a member on photoforum.com.au and wanted an entry for their December contest. The theme for the contest was "Contra Jour" which basically means "against the light". This would result in silhouettes and such, and this was my entry. Won't know until next month how many votes I get (if any). I'm not expecting to win, there are too many fantastic photographers there who are waaay better than me.
Again, sunsets look more interesting when there are a few clouds round!
This is Jarrom's car. Not pictured: bruised kidneys. It has a stonkin' loud stereo in it. Very awesome!
These are the type of sunsets we get in sunny WA. More often than you would think.
There were a bunch of other people at the beach of course. Mostly I shot around them, but every so often someone would wander into the frame. I liked the position of this chap, so I took his photo with the sun setting behind him.
Like I said, there were people at the beach (on a warm summer evening? How shocking!) I like this photo as it captures the little girl happily playing with a ball. Also, in the larger version you can see a sailboat I wanted to catch with the setting sun behind it, but didn't have a long enough lens.
Another shot, different lighting. See what I mean about the clouds?
The last part of the sun, just before it slips over the horizon.
Sunsets can be pretty hard to catch, especially the colours. It's easy to look at a spectacular sunset and take a photo only to see that they photo has none of the colour you saw. I like how most of these turned out, but I really should start photographing people more.
