Motife
Back in 2002/2003 I worked with Nextworld Studios on a film called Motife. Lamentably, that project was never finished but I had huge fun and learnt many things about making and producing films.
At the time I did not have a digital camera, these photos were taken by someone else (Greg Black, I think) at one of the locations.
This is what one of our typical sets looked like. We were allowed to film in this apartment for a few days. Hiding behind the light is the female lead, in the middle is Dean and on the right is Ian our camera operator slash producer.
This was in the kitchen (same apartment). Yes, that's me with the clapper board.
This is Dean McAskil, one of our most professional actors. I would happily work with him on any project, though there are precious few projects running in WA. I was lucky enough to get him to voice one of the characters in my stop motion film.
This is me balancing the weights on the back of the jib arm. The jib arm is a great peice of gear which adds a lot of value to certain shots but is a huge pain to work with!
I look a bit grumpy in this photo, can't remember why. I was probably tired at the time. I like this photo, though I still look undernourished and skinny.
This is Nunzio, one of the other people that help out on this producation. He did a bit of everything - editing, camera work and some production.
Filming isn't as glamorous as people think -it's hard work over long hours. I don't remember sleeping on the stairs, but there I am. Must have been a power nap.
From memory, I think that we were going to use this photo as a promo shot.
This is one of the few group shots that we got of the crew. In the light blue shirt and headset is Julian, the director. The happy chap at the front was our sound / boom / mic guy but unfortunately I have forgotten his name (sorry!). Centre is Dean, me with the clapper board and Ian Robertson with the camera.
I really enjoyed my time working on that film. It was a pretty big production and we filmed all over the place including several clubs throughout the city. We even shot some footage at the Joondalup Police Academy. I'm saddened that the film was never finished, but it was a great experience.
