The Night
This is my favourite collection of photos of the ones that I have taken with the 300d. These were shot outside at night.
I like how this shot came out. This was a short lens looking across a lake at around 1am.
Not sure why I keep taking photos of everyday things at night when there is nobody around. They take on a bit of a different feel at night.
I like this bridge. The lake underneath it has dried up a bit since I took this photo, but it still looks good at night.
This is one of the first night shots that I took. I remember that it took several goes to get it right because the camera needs a minute or so to take the photo, and the cat kept moving.
I like this structure due tue to the repeating nature of the pillars.
It was hard to get a decent photo of this place as the trees at the back are very dark, but the area at the front has several streetlights shining on it.
It's not very often that I take photos of the sunrise. I think this is the only one I have as most of the others are of sunsets. They look similar, but you can get different colours.
I like this photo because of the way the corner here is built. It's not a perfect corner, so the image looks like it was taken with a very short lens. It's the brickwork that is curved, not the perspective.
The empty road at night evokes a feel of ... serenity? Not sure that this is the right word for it.
I like putting this structure slightly off-centre in the frame as it gives the photo a very subtle "something is wrong" feel without it being obvious.
This is somebodies house, I like the way the lights at the front were set up.
This is from one of my first night expeditions - the orange-ish / brown-ish cast gives it a slightly old-timey feel. Slightly sepia toned, but not.
This is the way I do graffiti - with light! I "drew" my name on a desk in the park, and once I was finished, there was no trace other than this photo.
I'm sure that there is a story behind this shoe. I found it on the side of the road late one night. I stopped to take a photo of it and moved on. No idea if the owner was ever reunited with their missing shoe.
I wonder how many people will find this photo looking for the drink (no space) rather than the light (with a space).
The reflection off the water gives this sign a bit of a layer cake look. Zero wind this night, so the water was calm and glassy.
You can only just see it, but I like that the Red Rooster in the background can also be seen along with the Hungry Jacks sign reflected on the bonnet.
People use these parks most of the day - at night though ... nobody. Except me of course!
I set up here to try and take some photos of the lake, but it was really dark and there was not much detail to see. It wasn't until after I'd set up that I noticed that there was a party going on at the house across the lake. Some of the guys there were shouting across at me to go join them and have a drink.
This is one of the many water features around here. The streetlight reflecting off the still water makes for a very calming effect.
I really like how this photo came out. The different colours, the street in the background, the shadows hiding in the corners - it all combines into a nice photo.
This is the other shot I have of the dawn. The only reason I know is because of the time stamp.
I love this photo. Like the other playground photo above, the play of different lights makes for a vivid and interesting composition.
Steps, leading to the street at the edge of a park.
This photo was a bit of a cheat. The fountain was fairly dark, so I "painted" it with the light from my torch. This gave it the highlights and brought out the hidden details.
This divided road made for an interesting scene. I'm not sure if it is deliberate to have all the street lights with a strong yellow cast to them or if it just worked out that way. Some streets have the yellow lights, some the whiter lights.
I'm not sure just what this is. I found it on one of my random night expeditions and have not been able to re-locate it subsequently. I think it may have been a public facilities building, but it was fenced off when I was there (I poked the camera lens between the links in the fence, before you think I was trespassing).
I like this photo. In the carpark of a local fast food joint, streetlights on the right side of the photograph. The highlight is the colour difference between the carpark lights and the street lights.
