Pyro - Debut Album
This is the first album! The music is very basic, made with some cheap, off-the-shelf software and the inbuilt samples that came with the disc. If memory serves correctly the disc cost $9.95. And it shows.
Having said that, I chose to include this album here because it is part of the work that I have made and I can look back on it and see how I've improved. Use the player here to listen the music or use the links below in the album information.

1: Gone to Hell - 2:05
The first track I ever laid down, this one has the honour of being the first track on the album. Probably not a good idea to put it there since it's not a good song to lead with, but I have a soft spot for it. A purely instrumental track. This track was used in the brickfilm "Transaction". At the end of the film, the music is credited as being by "Dj DrumFreak Seven" which was (one of the many) names I used at the time.
2: Out There - 3.56
For this track I was going for a bit of an old school 80's techno-ish kind of vibe. I don't think I quite got there since it has a bit of a trance element running through it which sounds very 90's. I like how the samples and vocals went hand in hand with each other.
3: makithapn - 3:40
makithapn has this oddly Caribbean slash trance kind of undervibe to it. If I was making it again I would have left this track as an instrumental. The vocal is one of the ones that came with the software. It is definitely upbeat and one of the happier tracks on the album.
4: The higher plane - 5:05
This track is the track that I liked the least. There were still a dozen or so other tracks that were not good enough to put onto the album, but this one (just barely) made the cut. The reason I included it is that I like the beat and undertone feel of the track. What I really don't like is that I simply threw in nearly all the vocal samples that I had at the time. This makes the track feel cluttered and uncoordinated. If I still had the source files then I'd really like to re-do this track, but since I don't then this is what is left.
Despite all that, it's still kind of catchy.
5: Big Drummer Boy - 2:52
The bass in this track is probably a bit overblown but there was almost no control over the sound in the software I was using at the time. This is one of the weaker tracks since it is not sure what it is trying to do and changes styles in the middle.
6: soartificial - 4:19
A very jumpy offering, this track really makes me want to get up and dance. It has a very tight feel which it manages to keep up throughout the track. Despite the fast beat and minimalist lyrics, there is still a smidge of trance on the edges making this the closest track on the album to something that could be called "fusion".
7: Ingrown Piano - 4:18
A bit of a mash-up between styles on this track. It has a nice ambient start which then takes a hard right turn into a hip-hop slash funk kind of feel. Samples the old Run DMC style of turntable playing. Gets a little cluttered as the different themes don't play well with each other, but it has its redeeming qualities
8: Double Drift (Hi NRG) - 5:41
This is my favourite track on the album and probably the strongest despite the weak start. It it really fast and has a nice double back beat. You couldn't really dance to this unless you were on speed or something - but I'd give it a try. Even though it is pretty long and you'd be exhausted by the end. In a good way.
I'm really tempted to re-master this one since it is crying out for some nice vocals over the top to turn it into a proper anthem. Odds are that I won't, but if anyone feels up to the challange - go for it. Let me know how it turns out!
9: Another Day - 4:33
This is one of the first tracks I made. I think it came out reasonably well. There are a few flaws in the mix, but it's entirely danceable. It could do with some better sampled vocals than the ones I used (which came stock with the software), but it's one of my favourites. Or better yet, pull the vocals out altogether.
10: Jammin' on a lazy Sunday afternoon - 3:18
A very funky finale to the Pyro album. This is the most polished and professional sounding track on the album. Probably should have led with this one. If I remember correctly, this was also the last song I made with this software setup. I like the laid-back feel of this track and its happy vibe.
I have also made a video clip for this track, see it here: Jammin on a lazy Sunday afternoon!
